New Video: Do We Need a #DnDGate?

Well, I got some good responses to my little review video, and I've been thinking about starting to do more of these, and also to do a kind of talk show.

But for today, I talk about my recent experience being at the center of a huge Internet Outrage Shitstorm, all because I dared to say that people who don't play D&D aren't actually part of the D&D hobby.  See my reasoning behind it, and why I think the response to this perfectly simple statement tells me we might need to start a "#DnDGate" movement.

Check it out:

And let me know what you think!

  2. Are you filming these with your phone? A small mobile tripod could be an asset.

  3. No. We don’t need another stupid Gate. You spend too much time on social media.

    1. Maybe you don't spend enough time on it. In any case, the fact that you don't doesn't mean you won't suffer the consequences of influential harmful movements that thrive in it.

  5. I don't think we honestly need a D&Dgate or whatever. The time for that was years and years ago. Gamergate was in 2012, and Social Justice Warriors had already infiltrated the Tabletop RPG community and moved on by the time Gamergate started. The time for concerted resistance is long over.

But at the same time, that may also be a good thing. For while certain people do write about their leftist views, I feel that most people who play D&D don't actually care about politics in relation to the game. So we could in theory depoliticize our communities, all we have to do is resist any efforts from Wizard of the Coast or other RPG publishing firms to pander to SJWs by not supporting those efforts, as well as ignoring outsiders to the hobby who just want to criticize it.
